The Yutzy School was buzzing with energy and excitement Monday evening as the TYS community gathered for the much-anticipated March Madness Watch Party. The event gave students and their families the chance to watch the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship game on the Big Screen, in an atmosphere did not disappoint.

Families arrived with arms full of treats to share—freshly popped popcorn, chips and homemade dips, candy, drinks, and other goodies. The room was filled with laughter, spirited conversations, and the occasional groan or cheer as the Houston Cougars and Florida Gators battled it out on the court. The crowd seemed almost perfectly split in their loyalties, creating a playful back-and-forth as the game progressed.

The watch party wasn’t just about basketball—it was the culmination of a fun, educational activity that had been going on for weeks. In early March, before the tournament began, students filled out their own March Madness brackets. For the younger students, this became a creative way to practice their writing and spelling skills, while also getting excited about the national tournament. As each round unfolded, students tracked results, learned about different universities, and talked about sportsmanship and teamwork.

After a month of thrilling upsets and dramatic finishes, Gloria Yutzy emerged as this year’s Bracket Champion, with the most accurate predictions.

Head of School Dr. Ric Mitchell said, “Events like this highlight the heart of The Yutzy School. We’re not just a place for academics—we’re a community that celebrates learning, family, and fun together. March Madness gave us an opportunity to blend skill-building with school spirit and family fellowship.”

The evening was a slam dunk success and a great reminder of how a simple game can bring people together and spark joy in learning. The Yutzy School continues to look for meaningful, memorable ways to connect students and families both inside and outside the classroom.
